Council Oak Mens Chorale
Elizabeth Smith Curtis
Council Oak Men's Chorale is thrilled to welcome back Elizabeth Smith Curtis as Artistic Director. Elizabeth was previously COMC AD from 2004 to 2008. And took Council Oak to GALA 2008 in Miami. Having received both Bachelor and Master's of Music Degrees from Rice University, Elizabeth Smith Curtis has enjoyed many forms of music including being the vocalist with a big band orchestra and working at a “jingle factory.” She has performed regionally in operas, musicals and as a soloist in major classical works and has written the music and lyrics for eight musicals. She has been fortunate to work with internationally known baritone Sir John Reed, Broadway composer David Friedman, and Hollywood music director Roger Wagner. Some of her most enjoyable experiences have been as the conductor for many musical theater performances, Harvard Avenue Christian Church choirs, and Hyechka Chorus. Most recently she has composed and orchestrated the score for the feature-length documentary “Rock Stars: Women in Petroleum Geology.” Elizabeth enjoys teaching a full studio of young musicians and she takes great pleasure in performing with her husband, jazz pianist, Carl Curtis.
