Dr. Kim Childs

Welcoming Our New Artistic Director, Dr. Kim Childs

Dr. Kim Childs, Artistic Director of the Council Oak Men's Chorale, also directs the Cappella Chamber Singers, a 32 member auditioned ensemble and TU Chorale, a larger oratorio chorus, both at the University of Tulsa. Dr. Childs has conducted the Duruflé Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, Pinkham Christmas Cantata, Vivaldi Gloria, Handel Messiah, Mozart Coronation Mass, Fauré Requiem, and many other choral works. Upcoming choral performances include the Verdi Requiem in combination with the Signature Symphony and the Beethoven Symphony No. 9 with the Tulsa Oratorio Chorus and orchestra. He has studied conducting with Dr. Joe Miller of Westminster Choir College, Simon Carrington at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and Jerry McCoy, President of the American Choral Directors Association. Kim Childs also performs frequently as solo tenor, with a recent Carnegie Hall debut in Mozart's Vesperae de Dominica, K.321 and Vesperae solennes de Confessore, K.339. Other recent concerts include his debut with Tulsa Opera in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Haydn's Missa in Angustiis with the Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, Handel's Acis and Galatea and Semele with the Staunton Music Festival in Staunton, VA, and J. S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Dallas Bach Society. He has sung with numerous professional choirs, including the American Bach Soloists, Orpheus Chamber Singers, Carmel Bach Festival, Texas Choral Artists, Dallas Bach Society, Desert Chorale, and most recently, the Westminster Chamber Choir in Florence, Italy. Dr. Childs makes his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is Associate Professor of Choral Studies and Voice at the University of Tulsa.
